*Applicants under the Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP) guidelines are required to be at least 15 years old, a Canadian citizen and have attended a high school or a post-secondary institution in 2018-19 Academic Year (September 2018 – June 2019) and is returning to school full-time in the following year (no later than November 1, 2019).

Tourism Information Assistant

We need help up front! You will be one of the team who greets visitors at our front desk at our Everything Olds Information Centre. We are looking for a student from Tourism/Hospitality studies to assist and support the events, operators and attractions in Olds & surrounding area. Ideally you are familiar with many of our events and attractions, and can make recommendations to visitors/travelers on activities, accommodations and travel routes. You will have opportunity to participate in familiarization tours as available and attend Spring Training in Edmonton, as well as attend special events to staff our mobile kiosk. A friendly disposition is suited for this position – be comfortable in building relationships with local businesses, operators & the public.

Marketing Assistant

We are about marketing the community and need you to assist and support the marketing initiatives of Olds Institute. This will be promotional/cross-promotional activities between Olds Institute & its community partners, tourism operators and event coordinators. We need a young person in marketing/social media studies who can apply story-telling and creative techniques to our projects. Graphic design skills would be great so if you have a portfolio it should demonstrate your use of Adobe Creative Suite. Attendance at special events for social media coverage and information support will be needed. Knowledge and familiarity with various social media platforms and social content efficacy is an asset. You will have opportunity to participate in familiarization tours as available and AVIP Spring Training in Edmonton. You will also provide relief information desk coverage for Information Centre office so familiarity with events and attractions in the local area is a plus.


You will be asked to highlight events, operators and attractions in Olds & surrounding areas to support Olds Institute marketing. As a student of photography/video production/communications, we expect that you already have familiarity with equipment & software (Adobe Creative Suite) required, but additional training is provided where needed. We look forward to the viewing production of your videos and creation of quality stock photo library. Ideally you can envision how to apply story-telling & creative techniques to presentation of audio/visual information. We need you to support OI with finished digital assets, including video & digital photographic catalog, to attend special events for video & photography coverage, and to organize, catalog & tag our image library for OI. If schedules permit you may also stage & shoot high quality “stock” images for future marketing needs. Relief reception coverage for Information Centre office will be required.

All candidates should have the following:

  1. Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  2. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Business Suite.
  3. Flexible shifts will be required.
